Courtside Club is presented for the people by Caesars Sportsbook.
You bet, you get, with Caesars rewards. Must be 21 or older.
Okay, so how are your basketball skills?
Do we need a private session?
What's up you guys? I'm Rachel Namita and welcome to the Courtside Club.
Today I am joined by Sarah Echegaray.
Oh, she said it perfectly guys.
I said it perfectly.
I'm so excited to have you here, Sarah. Welcome to the Courtside Club.
Thank you so much for having me. I'm super excited to be here and to test out my sports knowledge.
Your sports knowledge. Well, now you are joining the cast of Big Shot for the second season.
Which I think is so dope because I've actually been following your TikTok journey for a couple years now.
I was one of those people who started TikTok during COVID.
I had a TikTok but I wasn't really using it until COVID happened.
And then I was like, oh, this is actually really fun.
And I did a lot of lip sync videos.
And so yours were so good though.
And I remember like using a lot of the audios that you use because you just like picked really fun ones.
And then to see you transition to being on a Disney Plus show is just so cool.
So first of all, congratulations.
Thank you. Thank you so much.
TikTok has like been insane.
I also started like during COVID too.
It was like late 2019.
And the reason why I started was because I was homeschooled for my senior year of,
And because of that, I also moved to Vegas randomly.
So I was just like, there was nothing else to do there.
And I live in like this like one bedroom apartment.
And so I just started doing TikTok and it was just like my escape.
Or like my creative outlet since I was just like a theater nerd.
And then all of a sudden I had nothing.
I was homeschooled.
There's no such thing as theater and homeschool guys.
But yeah, I mean, that's what I started doing like TikTok and all that stuff.
So you always wanted to act.
I've been acting since like the seventh grade.
I'm like trying to do the math in my head of what age I was, maybe 13, 14.
But now I'm 20, about to turn 21.
I know right when I left Vegas too.
But yeah, I've been wanting to do acting ever since I was little.
And now it's like bizarre to actually be on Disney Plus.
For the courtside listeners who might not have watched the show yet,
So in season one, we'll like what the premise of like big shot is.
It surrounds a character called Marvin Korn, who is John Stamos, of course.
The one and only.
The one and only.
Great hair on that guy.
And so basically he is like this like big shot coach until he kind of throws a tantrum
in public and throws stuff at a referee.
And because of that, no one wants to hire him anymore.
So he kind of gets like.
Like banned in like the NCAA.
And because of that, he only gets one job.
And that's like at a private girls school teaching basketball.
And that's kind of what the premise is about the entire show.
And he, I guess it's like this whole stereotype against like girls sports.
And so he's like dreading that.
And because of that, there's like a bunch of drama that goes on in season one.
And then season two comes in and I am this like also throwing tantrums in public.
So I'm kind of just like a very bold personality coming into season two.
And it's just going to be a lot of drama happening.
I saw the trailer.
And you definitely like make a splash when you come in.
I mean, there's a lot that comes with the character herself.
But she's kind of very blindsided coming into season two.
The character's name's Ava, by the way.
I'm like not even giving you a perfect description.
She kind of has her.
Her entire life planned out.
She believes she has to be number one in like everything.
Because she plays multiple sports too, right?
She plays volleyball.
Like volleyball was like her number one.
She was like in the Olympic tour for volleyball.
And then she does stuff that gets her outcasted.
You guys have to watch season two to see what she does.
And because of that, John Stamos, John Stamos' character, Marvin Korn, he recruits her.
And lots of stuff happens on the basketball court.
So how did you get the audition for the show?
I got the audition through my agent.
And when I first read it, I was like, wow, she's like the opposite of me.
Like the character herself.
And it was just like a very interesting script to read.
And I auditioned for the show.
And I got really positive feedback.
And then when I went to the callback, I initially didn't get the role.
They went with someone else.
And I was so crushed.
And so sad until like a few weeks later, they called me again.
And they were like, we're going to have you have another callback.
And it's tomorrow.
And I was like, oh, gosh.
That doesn't happen often, I will say.
No, I feel like I've been in this industry for a while.
Maybe the callback is like tomorrow might be something that happens often.
But not you not getting something and then you getting a callback.
You know what I mean?
Normally, when you don't get a role, it's just like move on onto the next.
Sometimes I don't even.
Yeah, that's exactly my mindset, too.
Like once they were like, no, we went with someone else.
I was just like crying about it.
I was so sad because I was like so sure it was the one.
And then I just kind of moved on.
And it was just like weeks later.
And they're like, another callback.
And I was like, this is so bizarre.
So were you a fan of the show beforehand?
Were you familiar with it?
So when I got the audition, I only saw it in passing, like on the platform.
And then when I got the audition, I was like, you know what?
Let's binge this.
So I binge watched it.
And it had like a bunch of seasoned actors like John Stamos and Jessalyn and Yvette.
And I was obsessed.
I was like, this is like because I'm not huge on sports that much.
But I was just like, it's the drama of it all that it just got me so entertained.
And so when I was like done watching, I was like, I'm ready for this audition.
And yeah, I mean, that's how I kind of like got super hooked onto it.
OK, so how are your basketball skills?
Do we need a private session?
If it happens, please.
But I used to do basketball back in like, no, middle school.
And so I was pretty bad.
A lot of coaches wanted me because of my height.
I am pretty tall.
No, I noticed that.
That was like the first thing I said to you when you came in.
I was like, wait, you're so much.
I don't know on TikTok if I just think of people as being shorter.
No, because a lot of people always like look at my face.
And it's like a very like baby face, I would say.
And so they're just like, yeah, you're definitely like five, three.
But no, you're really like you're taller than me.
Yeah, I'm like five, ten and a half.
Like it depends on the shoes on the day too.
So great for basketball, though.
Yeah, great for basketball.
But the skills need some work.
But I used to play and I didn't know that there was like a turnover.
Like when you like switch sides.
You mean at halftime?
When you switch baskets.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And so I didn't know that that happened.
And so when I got the basketball, because I guess it was like tossed to me.
Because I was one of the posts.
And everyone was just like, go, go.
And I was like, OK.
And so I'm like, I start running to the other basket, which I thought.
It was our basket to shoot in.
But it really was the other teams.
And everyone in the audience was like yelling my name.
And I thought they were just cheering for me.
But no, they were literally like, go.
Go the other way.
And I was just like, yeah, yeah.
But like, thank God that my skills are so bad that I missed the basket.
But honestly, in youth basketball, and this is somebody who's been playing basketball
since I was 10 years old, that is something that happens a lot in youth sports.
Because it's one of those things, too.
And I will like totally admit to it.
At the jump ball, I used to tell myself like 10 times which way we are going.
Because that's like a basketball player's biggest fear is like going the wrong way.
Because sometimes you just have like the smallest little brain fart, you know?
And all of a sudden, you're at the wrong basket.
So you're not the first, will not be the last in youth basketball to go the wrong way.
I am so glad that you said that.
Because I was just like, this is just like a very cliche story.
No one's going to believe me.
But it's like, it happened.
And I was just so embarrassed.
So on set, what is that like?
Are you playing more basketball than you probably ever have, I'm assuming?
So we had a professional basketball player to come and like help us.
Literally, after training with her, I was able to shoot threes like nothing.
It was like insane.
I didn't, not even a flex or anything.
I was just like, what's going on with my body?
And how is this happening?
But yeah, so we had basketball camp before we started filming.
And it was like two weeks or something.
And I was like, two weeks?
Like, I need more than that.
But yeah, we had basketball camp.
And I was like, yeah, definitely going to that.
And so we would just like work on like form shots.
And then afterwards, like we would work on like plays that were going on in the script.
And yeah, I mean, after that, I was just pretty good.
So did you do, okay, as a basketball player, basketball camp, did you have any conditioning?
Did you have any like, or was it strictly like, okay, let's stick to the script.
What's going to be in the script and do that?
We would do conditioning too.
Like we would work on like form.
So you ran line drills?
What's a line drill?
Or like suicides?
Why does it sound really familiar?
Well, because I did play basketball, but like.
So when you run, you're from the baseline to foul line and then back to baseline,
then half court line, back to baseline, free throw line on the opposite end,
back to baseline, full court is you're touching all, you're running, right?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
You're touching always with your feet and your hand.
So we would do like from baseline to half and then to the next baseline,
but it wasn't like, like slowly increasing.
We were just like run.
If that makes sense.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So down and back.
Yeah, just down and back.
No, it's good that you skipped that part because like many of my years were spent doing suicides.
At basketball practice.
Because I remember I used to do that actually for like when I actually played like middle school
The fact that you do this for years of props to you.
I don't know why I picked play basketball, but you know.
You didn't pick it.
Basketball picked you.
Basketball and track.
You know, the two sports where you're just like punishing yourself at all times.
We all know him from Full House.
I feel like every generation that watches television knows him from that.
What was it like working with him and meeting him for the first time?
I mean, like with him, I grew up watching him, Full House, of course.
And literally watching him, I was just like, he has like the greatest hair.
My mom had a huge crush on him growing up too.
So it was just like, he was like a huge.
He was like a huge household name in my, I guess, house.
And so working with him, I was just like freaking out and fangirling.
But I was like, keep it inside.
And he was like literally like the chillest person ever to work with.
He is like, I remember like the first day that we finally like met him in like real life.
It was like a 15 hour day that we worked on set.
And he knows that I do TikTok.
And so afterward, he like pulled me inside and he was like, let's do some TikTok.
So I was just like, OK.
I mean, after a 15 hour day, you can't say no to John Stamos.
So I was like, let's do it.
And like after that, we just kind of like bonded like every day.
We're just like, let's do TikToks or like let's just chill and hang out.
And yeah, he was just like the best.
Does he have a TikTok account?
I mean, like he posts like the most randomest things and he posts like trend stuff that I do with him.
So, yeah, I mean, it's pretty good.
I would say pretty solid.
He's like, OK, if you had to grade him.
Uh, I would give him like a B plus.
I give him a B plus.
OK, that's not bad.
Always room to grow.
So here on the Courtside Club, we like to take a halftime break if you're down.
Yeah, let's do it.
I have a little game for you.
One of these cups has a scenario that is basketball related.
And the other cup has an emotion.
So I've actually seen you play this game before.
We're not going too crazy.
I want to act out this scenario.
But this time you won't be on an island yourself.
So you can play off of me.
I'm not an actress, but we'll go for it.
I'm not a sports person.
So this is perfect.
OK, so let's let's pick.
This one's calling me.
Should I read it?
You just lost to your rival school.
Let's see the emotion.
If it's happy, I'm probably just going to like hangry.
So I'm your teammate.
We just lost to our rival school.
I just can't believe that we just lost.
I just want to get out of here, honestly, and like go to In-N-Out or something.
Because we just had team dinner after.
Like, you're still hungry.
Honestly, I'm so upset right now.
I don't even feel like I can eat.
I think it made me even more hungrier, to be honest.
Hungry for revenge.
I like that you took the hangry to the.
Actually, no, I'm going to give you one cup.
And then I'll pick this one to make it a little bit easier.
You sprained your ankle.
And you're guilty.
I'm guilty about spraining my ankle?
So I'm just going to grab this.
Sarah, are you OK?
That looks so bad.
But it's not as bad as.
How I played today.
We won by 30 points.
Like, don't feel bad.
Like, I feel bad that you're out for, like, four weeks.
We could have gone down by, like, 40 more points.
I just hope that you heal up quick.
I just hope that that you're feeling OK.
Ankles feel real good.
You're late for team workouts.
So I'm your sister.
I'll drive you to work out.
Sarah, it is literally.
Can you, like, like, five hours on it?
Like, can you, like, hit the gas, please?
Like, I'm going to be late.
No, we're literally in a school zone.
I cannot speed in a school zone.
No, you can't work.
No, I get points for running over people.
You're going to get us both to jail.
Do you want to be late?
I'd be like, do you want to be 15 minutes late or do you want to go to jail?
That was perfect.
That was perfect acting.
Weren't you an actress?
I need, like, a sound effect actor.
We have two more.
You lost your start spot to a freshman.
And you're excited.
I'm so happy that you got my spot.
Like, it's so great.
But you've been starting since you were a freshman.
It's like the best to start at a young age.
Like, you're just so much better.
Do you have any advice for me?
This is actually my first time playing on varsity.
I can't believe coach gave me the spot.
It's kind of crazy.
Like, I airballed my last free throw and he still has me starting, which is.
You know, like, people make mistakes.
But honestly, you're better.
You're just better than me.
I mean, you are team's leading scorer and everything.
So it's kind of confusing.
I mean, you're a freshman.
You have so much to go for.
And like, I'm just super excited for you.
You're going to do amazing.
Which basket is ours?
I don't even know.
You're in the locker room before the championship game.
And you're disgusted.
Are you ready for this, you guys?
This is the championship game.
We need this dub.
We lost last year in overtime.
Like, I'm a senior.
This is my last game of the year.
We need this one.
It's, like, honestly appalling that we're here.
We're going to win anyways.
Like, do you need to go the restroom?
No, no, no, no, no.
Do we have Gatorade?
Do you have, like, the red flavor, please?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I'm going to be sick.
Big shot season three.
You just got it right now.
Yeah, definitely.
Time for the second half.
All right, people.

We are switching baskets.
I want to talk about TikTok a little bit more.
Because that was your start.
You said that you started around COVID time, which I think is crazy.
Because you've grown so much in less than two years, two years.
Were you expecting to take off the way that you were?
Because you were doing content that was kind of different at the time.
Because I feel like when you started, it was just mostly dancing stuff.
The lip syncing, acting hadn't blown up like it has now.
Yeah, it was definitely like a different niche on TikTok that a lot of people just hadn't seen.
And so it was just, I guess, kind of like refreshing since there are a lot of like
renegades happening on the platform at that time.
I guess mine was just like very different, which is why a lot of people really like to
But I didn't expect it to pop off the way that it did.
I just thought it was like a fun and creative outlet.
And then it started to get a little bit more serious once like my manager reached out to
me and I was like, what do I even need a manager for?
But sure, like, let's do it.
And then after that, he was like, an agency called WME wants to meet with you.
And I was just like, WME?
Like, that's when I think it kind of got a little bit.
More serious when an agency wanted to meet with me.
And I was like, this can actually like be a launch to my acting career, which is what
happened, which is still crazy to me to this day.
Like, I don't think it's ever really processed in my head.
But I think that's a good way to go about it because you're living in the moment, you
know, and it still seems like you really appreciate all that you're doing now.
I mean, I didn't come from like money nor connections, which I feel like is kind of
I feel like acting is like you either have the connections for it or you live in L.A.
And I lived in Texas at the time.
So it was just like it is a very surreal, surreal feeling to be able to do my dream
What is dream role for you?
I feel like every role is a dream role, especially for an actor.
Like this industry is just difficult in itself, like to just get a role and like landed.
That's like a huge deal already.
But I feel like I mean, Marvel is like a huge one.
I feel like Star Wars.
That's like I've been watching it since I was little with my dad.
So I feel like Star Wars is probably like one of the main ones and then Marvel.
So something action.
I would love to do something with action.
Also drama, because I do want to showcase a little bit more of like the duality of my
So like anything that would get me like different roles in life would be fun.
Like more emotions than hangry.
Have there been any.
Have there been any celebrities or athletes that have reached out to you or that spoke
to you that you maybe weren't expecting that they even like knew who you were?
I mean, I think my first ever celebrity that reached out to me, which was like so surreal
was Jessica Alba.
And I was like, you're on Fantastic Four.
I was freaking out because like I also grew up watching her.
And like she just reached out to me and she was just telling me like how much she like
loved my videos on TikTok.
I mean, it was just super surreal coming from the Jessica Alba.
So who is your starting five actors of all time?
I think I'd have to give Zendaya.
She'd be like point guard or however we call it.
If you want to give them positions.
You don't have to.
If I can remember them.
You don't have to.
She's like my idol.
Maybe like Robert Downey Jr.
I love his acting as well.
Um, maybe I love Tom Holland too.
How many people is that for?
You just need one more.
Maybe Ewan McGregor.
So top five TikTokers.
Top five TikTokers.
Uh, call me Chris.
We have to go with, oh, my gosh.
I forgot her username, but, uh, it's Selena.
Is it Spooky Selena?
And then I'll throw Vinny Hacker in there.
Because I remember, I can remember his username and he's cool too.
Um, and I'll throw, I'll throw Charlie D'Amelio in there.
She actually, the first time I ever saw them was at NBA All-Star in 2019.
And it was very, I can't even lie.
It was very confusing because they were so new to the scene that they weren't like kind
of like household names that I feel like they are now.
And it was Charlie, Dixie, and Addison, all three of them.
And they had them do this kind of dance and basketball fans were kind of confused.
NBA was kind of ahead of the curve.
You know what I mean?
But I was like, who are these kids from TikTok?
And like, why are they at NBA All-Star?
But you know, it's cool.
It's cool to see how much they've grown now.
And really just like done everything.
And Addison is acting now as well.
And she also has like a makeup line that's like amazing.
I'm literally wearing one of her like lip oils or something like that.
Amazing makeup line, I would say.
Was there anybody that you looked up to on TikTok or in acting?
I mean, in acting, I would say definitely Zendaya because she also had a Disney origin.
Even had like the Disney job.
Like I always looked up to her because she had such a dynamic where it was like she could
be on Disney shaking it up.
And then she's like on Marvel being like this amazing like contrast of like her Disney character
and then she's on Euphoria.
It's just like next level.
It's just like she could play so many different roles and a lot of people, some people don't
even know that she started on Disney, which is like, cause she just has such a dynamic
uh I guess list of roles that she has and yeah like she's just like an idol that I look up to
I've never met her either but she does seem like a good person too like she seems very sweet when
I've seen interviews and things like that so it's it's cool when you can when your persona off camera
is also a cool person you know what I mean and yours is too oh thank you thank you we are reaching
the end of the game so I have some buzzer beaters for you if you're down okay I'm down
describe your ideal courtside fit probably like dripped in all Nike I love okay yeah I mean like
we love those Nike socks like I don't even know like the names of like the shoes but
anything Nike love it cool have you been courtside to a game yet we'll get you there
yes please are you a fan of like any NBA teams I'm a fan of sports like I love watching it but
like being a part of it I'm like I'm gonna screw this up for everyone but yeah
so you're a Rockets fan not um a Mavericks fan because you're from Texas right yeah I'm from
Texas yeah I mean I never really picked one I was just like whichever team's winning I'm like
okay so just rep in Texas yeah I rep in Texas all right cool who was one person dead or alive
that you would love to sit courtside with oh gosh maybe like I feel like LeBron would just fill me in
yeah what's going on so I feel like maybe LeBron that'd be a great coach yeah yeah
we're from the same hometown really yeah so I did you ever meet him what's crazy is I've met like so
many NBA players and that's one that I haven't but I've been watching him play basketball since he was
14 like we would go to his games when he was playing in high school but yeah that's one person
I have yet to meet which is kind of crazy insane yeah well hopefully you get to meet him soon yeah
yeah I think I will yeah you will more than likely I mean you're in this industry yeah
Sarah thank you so much for coming on the courtside club of course before I let you go
let everybody know
firstly where they can watch Big Shot season two and where they can find you on socials of course
