Courtside Club is presented for the people by Caesars Sportsbook.
You bet you get with Caesars rewards. Must be 21 or older.
We are on the second season. We shoot this show every week.
He's just now getting a producer's name right. His name is Donzel.
Shaq been calling him Dontrell, Denzel, Dontel, Montel.
Everything but Donzel.
What's up you guys? I'm Rachel Demita and welcome to the Courtside Club.
I'm super excited for today's guest. He's been on the top of my list for a while now.
We have former NFL lineman, actor, comedian, and host of the big podcast with Shaq, Anthony Spice Adams.
Welcome to the Courtside Club.
What up? I was just on the top of your list because it's in alphabetical order.
Yeah, I mean maybe. No, you were on the top of my list because we go way back.
And we've played in multiple celebrity games together and we always have so much fun on the court.
So I was like.
You know, I think we'd have fun chatting too.
Yeah, you're a little bit of a ball hog, but that's okay.
Wait, I could say the same for you. I can't even lie.
What?
I'm just kidding.
I got a call for the ball. I'm in a post. I'm about to get a post man a ball. Ever.
I think like four or five games now we've played together.
Yeah.
At least.
And I have had a few viral moments on Twitter in celebrity games.
But I think you take the cake for viral moments.
One clip of you before the game with that entire ball rack.
Yeah.
You know what I'm talking about?
That clip has been used on NBA Twitter and in the basketball meme space for the past however many years.
So I'm kind of jealous.
Yeah, I was there behind the camera.
I don't even remember who was filming you just watching.
I was like, okay, when you put, you know, all this production behind a video, that's the stuff.
That never hits.
The stuff you just do, just, just acting silly.
That's the stuff that goes viral.
So, I mean, were you expecting that?
No, not at all.
Not at all.
I was just having fun and just doing what I do.
And it just so happened to be a camera there.
But this is stuff I used to do in college and people used to have a good time watching it and, you know, taking pictures and stuff like that.
We didn't have social media back then.
So, you know, right now it's just, you know, I'm just a beneficiary.
I'm just a beneficiary of what I used to do when I was in college acting silly.
I remember when we were like in high school and we were video recording things, but it was like a whole camcorder, you know, because the phones didn't really have it.
I don't know where those tapes are, but I hope someone burned them and didn't like sell them in a yard sale or something because.
Listen, if you, if you want your tapes to be burned, trust me, in college, I was, I was a handful.
I want my thing to be burned.
So what's the craziest thing that might be on those tapes if we were to find them?
I don't even want to know.
Honestly, a lot of stuff I don't even remember, man.
People would come up to me and remember the one time you did.
I'd be like, no, I did a lot of crazy stuff in college.
Speaking of college, though, I feel like you've lived multiple lives and multiple careers.
Obviously, you grew up playing football.
I played at Penn State.
Played in the pros.
Football is your core.
You still follow it now.
What did you think of the college football playoffs?
The the top four teams.
Everybody every year is going to complain about something every year.
They complain when it wasn't a college football playoffs.
Not that it is a college football playoffs.
They can complain about that.
They can complain about these four teams and they can complain that, oh, it needs to be six teams.
Oh, it needs to be eight teams.
It needs to be 16 teams.
You know, so people are going to complain all the time.
Like, as long as it's a good game, you know, I don't really care.
Do you like the teams?
I do.
I do.
It's college football, man.
I don't care what four teams you put in there.
I'm still going to watch it.
It don't matter.
Like, you know, everybody complains about the rankings and stuff like that.
But it's two Big Ten teams in there.
So Big Ten is doing a thing.
OK, so who are you pulling for?
This is going to set the tone of this interview of the two Big Ten teams.
There's only one correct answer.
There's only one correct answer.
Only one.
Well, look, I'm going to tell you this.
I have a personal interest in these games because my defensive line coach is the defensive line coach for Ohio State.
OK.
Got to go with Ohio State just because my coach is there.
And that's my homie.
That's my dog.
A-plus answer.
That was the correct answer.
That was the correct answer?
OK, cool.
I'm from Ohio.
Yeah.
So I was a bit devastated at the Michigan-Ohio State game because that was just embarrassing.
We have another chance now.
My father-in-law is a huge Michigan fan.
And I'm from Detroit, Michigan.
But my coach, that's my guy, man.
That's my guy, man.
I got to go with Ohio State.
So you played in the NFL.
I played in the NFL around eight seasons, I believe.
Nine.
Nine seasons.
Nine long seasons.
Yeah.
I tried to get 10.
They didn't want me to have it, Rachel.
I tried to get double digits.
They didn't want me to have it.
So.
So how did the transition happen for you into this kind of comedy, entertainment space?
Because like I said earlier, I mean, some people may have never seen you play football,
but you're so recognizable in this space now.
So was that always what you wanted to do?
No, I didn't want anything to do with social media at all.
I just wanted to focus on football.
I didn't understand how players could just interact on social media all day.
Like, I couldn't understand it.
But some of my teammates telling me, they saying, man, you built for social media, but
I couldn't see it.
So what they would do is they would tape me, record me coming into the locker room or to
the training room or whatever.
In the weight room.
In the weight room.
And then they would put it up on their page and then they would show me like all the interactions
and stuff like that.
And I was like, from me doing this, like this, I mean, people talking about it, this is crazy.
So I started to do my own little videos and then I would show my teammates and they said,
yeah, man, post that, man.
Say we see this stuff all the time, but not a lot of other people get to see it.
So they don't get a chance to see how funny you are and you know, just how like you'd
like to have a good time or whatever.
So I started doing it.
I started liking it and um, you know, I was, I always wanted to entertain, you know, me
being the only child.
So this was another form of entertainment.
So yeah, you know, we got something in common then, you know, but this was, this was right
up my alley.
It's like, it's like therapeutic for me, you know, I like people around me and have a good
time.
So now I got like extended family and friends right now who come to check out my video.
So it's, it's dope, man.
I'm having a good time.
You have different characters as well.
And yeah, they gums, right?
Yeah.
That's who likes to, you know, show up at these celebrity games sometimes, sometimes
it's good for our team sometimes, you know, shot goes off the top of the backboard and
take it on the chin, get back on defense of how, how did he come to life?
Well, that one was, you know, something that I just had stored in the back of my phone
that I was like, I'm never going to put this out.
This is so stupid.
Like after watching the video a couple of times, I was like, nah, man, I'm not going
to put this out.
I just, uh, put myself up in the garage and just started doing all these moves on air.
And um, you know, I just had it in my phone and one night I was just, um, I was dozing
off watching, um, the warriors versus, uh, the calves.
And uh, I was like, you know, I'm just gonna put this video out and I'm a slap finals.
You know, just, uh, just so, you know, I can stop thinking about it.
It was so stupid.
And then I had fell asleep.
And when I woke up, I was getting like all these notifications from all my friends said,
Kevin Hart just posted your, your video.
So I'm like, man, maybe he commented on it.
Like he didn't post that, like that man's a full blown comedian.
He's in movies and I'm like, why would he post my video on it?
He's funny already.
Like, why would he put my stuff on his page?
So I go to his page.
Sure enough.
It was on there.
And then once he posted it, then a house of highlights posted it and then ludicrous and
snoop dog and Jamie Foxx, you know, all these celebrities and everything, then it just kind
of took off.
So I had to go and, uh, you know, create him an account, you know, so nobody would steal
it.
You know what I mean?
And just start putting up like all this crazy stuff.
So I did that and cream big ones got over 300,000 followers on Instagram.
And he was on NBA live 19 had an 89 overall rating, one higher than magic Johnson, people,
all types of stuff, man, it's, it's been crazy.
Yeah.
History was made.
Yeah.
Speaking of, um, Kevin Hart, did you ever get to play ball with him?
No, but you know, I would dominate him.
He's like, he's like, Oh gee, NBA celebrity game.
And he retired.
You know, I'm pretty sure he'd scored three points, you know?
And then you can't.
It's hard to guard him, you know, cause you can't see him.
He's so short.
Who is the best celebrity that you've ever hooped with?
That I ever hooped with aside from me.
I mean, Shaq, I mean, I don't, I don't see how I get any better than that.
I mean, the most dominant center ever, you know, he, he threw me alley-oop.
It wasn't, it wasn't a good alley-oop, but it was alley-oop nonetheless.
And, you know, I tried to.
Yeah.
Make the most out of the situation, but.
It was a windmill 360.
It's fine.
Yeah.
You can.
Not quite 360, but you get the gist.
Yeah.
We'll find that tape.
Oh, I want to get more into your podcast with Shaq.
So you guys do a ton of work together, but first I would like to take a halftime break
if you're down.
Oh, let's do it.
Halftime.
That's, that's the best time.
That's when you get to eat.
And we have a fun game.
It's a brand new game to the courtside club.
Yeah.
I want you to build a franchise.
So I have a list of categories, sports categories and others, and you have to pick that one
person who you would love to build your franchise around.
Okay.
Okay.
I'll start you off with an easy one.
NFL team.
This is your bread and butter.
What one person would you like to build an NFL franchise around?
Can be in Chicago.
Of course.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
me yannis give me yannis on the pistons baby we'll be rolling follow-up question who's your
point guard with yannis uh steph it's a good mix yeah i like it that's that's all you need right
there we're good we're good to go all right now you're building a podcast network you need that
one talent to hold down the network well i don't think anybody's as good as nichelle turner she's
fantastic she is awesome man like she's she's very good at what she does so the show is the
best man so i'm going to show the show is our franchise podcaster for the network the great
choice all right now you're starting a record label you need that one artist and this could be
anybody so even someone who's not putting out music anymore okay well i don't think anybody is
um doing as well as uh could have been records
so i gotta go
you
it's not even close what single are you releasing first uh it's gonna be some trap like some trap
music this is gonna be some type of rap some type of hip-hop and uh you know i'm just gonna
put drewski on the track man that's that's it that's all we need okay we're starting we're
starting a record label with drewski now you are starting a new comedy club you need a
comedian to set you guys off who are we taking right now give me give me a little rail little
rail little rail is killing it and also when i played in the in the in the all-star game in
chicago he was mad at me he said why we gotta we gotta take this serious all right you can't be out
here just shooting all these random threes man he was so serious man did your team did your team win
in that game um
we did we did okay as far as i can remember i don't know you're asking someone who got hit
upside the head a bunch of times so i think we in my mind we did okay i can i can relate a little
bit though because in in my celebrity game in la my team lost but i was leading scorer of my team
and like so you won well no i would have had mvp if my team would have won but we didn't
so i was actually upset with paul pierce because he wasn't playing
i was like can you just play for me so i gotcha so i could get mvp so i i relate a little bit but
you guys won so i don't think he has anything to be mad about now i just have fun you bring
the entertainment value for sure okay last but not least uh you're building a new social media
platform you need that one influencer who's gonna set it off um you me yeah you're gonna set it off
i'll take it why not i'll be there we'll make a collab video for the first one
yeah let's do basketball viral video everybody will be over

1-800-522-4700 so the podcast was shack the big podcast how did that come about first of all i love
it so much fun you guys as a trio are fantastic well as you know i met shack at the celebrity
crunch classic and uh he was familiar with my videos so he said hey man um i'm looking to do
some things and uh pretty soon and when i do you know i want you to be a part of it so i'm like
okay you know usually you hear things like that and you'd be like all right you know we'll see
and it never happens so next thing you know
i'm getting all these emails and calls and you know tnt is like hey shack wanted to do this
podcast with you and michelle turner so i'm like i'll bet and they like we're doing it you know
next week so i'm like dang next thing you know you know i get all this stuff sent to my career
whatever to set up everything to shoot the podcast and i was like dang this is really happening so
you know it was dope man we have a good time on there uh sometimes we have a list of things that
get to it but uh we always have a good time so uh it's it's one of them type podcasts where
we might talk about any and everything and you know we we have fun doing it i've never laughed
so much like like every week just straight and tears laughing at some of the things that we come
up with and say i saw one of the episodes recently where i don't even know how the subject came about
but shack is like you can't trust a clown and then
he just destroyed his chair right but then you started destroying your furniture as well
yeah it's only it's only one of us is gonna get in trouble though yeah of course that's gonna be me
uh yeah i just i channeled my inner uh steph curry when uh jay mine got the technical for
celebrating and then he went out there and started celebrating and you know he got the tech and so
kind of was in that
that same type of spirit uh when it came to that i don't know what made him tear up that chair it
was a nice chair you know what i'm saying it was catered towards him you know i mean it's seven foot
one it ain't too many chairs that he could fit in somebody handmade this chair and carved it the way
that it's supposed to be and he tore it up for some reason i don't i don't know the reason i
wouldn't even call it a chair we call it a throne at this point right it was a
it was a chair that was made out of wood and destroyed but wait i feel like you were filming from home yeah i'm not sure that your wife was uh right with that yeah it wasn't the best idea and i'm paying for it right now
so um i'm sure like we've seen a lot of wild moments and the show is still
is still pretty new so i'm excited for where it has to go but what is the the most wild moment
or thing that has been said that we didn't get to see in that final cut
you gotta let us under the hood a little bit you mean in that episode or just in the in the show in
general i know that there's something because i have also been around shack for many of years
yeah and we hear him on the sideline um he says some wild stuff yeah a lot of times when uh
the feed is bad or when his headphones aren't working or his microphone isn't working
he has a
some uh some funny things to say to the producer and uh
we we we are on the second season and he just i mean we shoot this show every week
and he's just now getting a producer's name right he called him his name is don zell
shack been calling him dot trail
denzel uh don tail uh everything montel everything but don zell which is his name
so it is it is hilarious just i wish i could just write down every time he's butchered his name
oh man it is so funny man i don't know if he he does it on purpose or he just doesn't remember
but it's been two seasons
and he has not gotten right it's more impressive actually that he's like continuing on not getting
the name right from like actually getting it um but but i heard something he was calling them all
like i think he called someone like snoop or something and kanye oh no well the people that
work on the set where he is out in l.a he just gave all of them nicknames okay so that's like
there's that too who is it uh he's kanye east is there eminem is there
kenny rogers and somebody else ryan seacrest or something like that so these are all
you know sometimes he doesn't wear his glasses so he's like you know he's saying all of these
people look like um or doppelgangers of eminem and when you see him on camera you're like
okay that does not look like eminem but all right we'll give it to you we've seen that
on tnt too when he's uh squinting a little bit but we won't come down too hard on it
what has been your favorite moment so far from that show has there been any episode or
any conversation that stood out to you whenever shaq gives advice uh mainly it's like uh
you know some people having problems with their relationship or something like that
and i don't know if some of these relationships are true or whatever but some people write in and
michelle reads out these strawberry letters or whatever and uh shaq gives whoever it is advice
and some of it is the worst advice in the world and some of it is is uh it's kind of cool
but just to hear his take on it is it's always funny
every time because you know once he gets his mind set on something whether it's right or wrong like
you you can't you can't convince him otherwise i have to say he's been one who's given me a bit
of relationship advice too but it was good oh yeah yeah it wasn't bad okay he likes to uh after
my breakup years ago he said what's in the past is in the past you need to just go forward stop
looking at it which was very good advice yeah and you know most of the times you know he's really
good but sometimes the way that people's relationship go and you like put somebody in the
mix of it where you know my my guy cheated on me eight times and he did this and he did that
like how do like how do you follow that up you know what i'm saying so some of it is so ridiculous
that he just has to come up with something ridiculous as a response i've heard you say
in a lot of interviews about your career that you don't really know what's next you've just
been kind of riding the wave is there anything though that you want to dip your toe in or any
other feel kind of in entertainment that strikes your interest i'm just uh having fun being myself
that's really what it's all about at this point you know just uh you know football was like a
form of entertainment and i had fun in doing that and i got i got paid a lot of money so and i didn't
feel like it was work so anytime you can do something that you're passionate about and you
get paid for it that's like that's the best
of me
in the world because you you feel like it's not work like it's fun like you look around and be
like man i'm really getting paid to do this this is awesome so anything that falls under the line
of entertainment like i'm like i'm i'm excited about the videos are going to keep coming right
for sure no question we need we need your internet presence especially on my social media platform
my franchise we need we need you on it okay yeah for sure for sure i'm
gonna be shooting some stuff today cool all right spice before we let you go we have some
buzzer beaters for you you're down okay let's do it all right what's your ideal food and drink combo
while sitting courtside pizza and um sierra miss is that good yeah it's classic who is one person
dead or alive that you would love to sit courtside with uh tupac yeah then maybe we could record a
song or something like that you know and i just do i just want to do ad-libs like i just want to
be like yep uh-huh uh stuff like that while he does all the rapping and stuff like that i just
do the ad-libs yeah have you ever tried that like on a on a record that's already out of course have
i not seen them those videos i remixed the song uh called mine by bazzy and changed it into fries
the chick-fil-a fries oh man you gotta go check it out it's up on itunes right now i gotta i gotta
hit single wait is it really on itunes i promise uh go on itunes and look up fat wonder
fat wonder i currently have two songs on itunes right now okay because i've heard your
original tracks you know like chick-fil-a song yeah and then i've
heard some remixes from your the big podcast as well when michelle was what was it her like
chicken wing or something oh you know what i'm talking about yeah so that was uh a producer
he heard her say something that piqued his interest and uh he made a single about it
this is pretty good it's pretty catchy all right last but not least what is one event in history
that you would have loved to have been courtside for
be a sporting event or other um when the pistons went back to back oh that was the best mc hammer
was out you can't touch this it was hammer time that was that was a good time in detroit there
man isaiah thomas joe dumars john sally dennis robin buddha edwards vinny the microwave man we
was rolling we was rolling he was a detroit goat
yeah isaiah and barry barry sanders they're the detroit goats oh and uh megatron megatron is
he's that guy and he don't even really say much he just go out and torch you i i bet you
if there's any footage of him being mic'd up it's just all just grunts if he even grunts i don't
think he does that man dude is just he doesn't even breathe he's a machine so i thank you so
much for coming on courtside club let everybody know where they can find you and uh also your
new show slash documentary series amazon prime yeah um it's called life after it's uh 12 former
nflers and uh going to the life of what we're doing now after football yeah so it's on a prime
video and uh i'm on the second episode
myself and former chicago bear thomas jones who's in hollywood now um acting so yeah that's that's
dope but um you can find me everywhere spice adams on all social media spiceadams.com shop.spiceadams.com
if you want some merch you know uh but that's that's basically it i try to keep everything
simple and uh keep everything spice adams as you know it's right perfect
and and check out cream check out um the songs on itunes as well yeah you are worldwide
every platform all that stuff i got i got four kids rachel you know i'm saying so
and your dad that's you i've heard you say that's your most important job
oh yeah so no question okay let me see if i can pan up that's them right there there they are
hey they're a lot older right now my guy right there he's in high school so he's a high school
out here wrestling playing football all that stuff so i'm gonna check out cream and check out the
track by the startup you're gonna be throwing a shot put and discus my man is a he's a full-blown
athlete right now i can imagine it's gonna be a family of athletes so man we'll see if they
transition into entertainment too if dad allows yeah we'll see no but thank you so much for coming
on i appreciate you yeah no problem anytime
